Mobile access, honestly
It is possible to reach an onion address from a phone, but it is the weakest of the common options. This page is honest about why.
If you must use a phone
On Android, Tor Browser is available from the Tor Project and can open onion addresses directly. Set its security level to Safest, exactly as on desktop, and copy addresses from the mirrors page. On iOS there is no official Tor Browser; the Onion Browser project is the closest option and inherits Apple's networking limits.
Why desktop or Tails is stronger
- Phones tie a hardware identity, a phone number and a cloud account to everything you do.
- Mobile keyboards, backups and screenshots can retain what you type.
- An amnesic Tails session leaves nothing behind; a phone keeps caches, logs and backups by default.
Treat phone access as a convenience for reading, not for anything you would mind being recovered later. For a real transaction, prefer a desktop Tor Browser or Tails.
