Reachability and status
"Is it down, or is it just Tor?" is the most common question a market visitor has. This section separates the two: a live view of the mirrors, an honest explanation of how reachability is measured, and a log of past incidents so you can see the difference between a market problem and a network one.

Down, or just Tor?
When a mirror will not open, the cause is far more often the Tor network than the market. Onion connections build a longer path than ordinary web requests: your client fetches the service descriptor from a distributed directory, then negotiates a rendezvous point. Any hop in that chain can stall, especially during the periodic denial-of-service waves that hit onion services network-wide. The symptom is identical to a market outage, which is why measuring carefully matters.
Before assuming the market is down: request a new Tor circuit for the tab, try the other mirror, and give it a minute. If both mirrors fail for several minutes while the rest of your Tor browsing is fine, only then is a real market outage likely.
